A catalog manager that fits in your pocket

I rebuilt a cluttered, desktop-only inventory tool into Kata, a dark-theme catalog manager merchants can run entirely from their phone.

Three Kata app screens: catalog grid, sign-up and catalog list
Problem

E-commerce merchants struggle to manage complex catalogs, inventory and SKUs on the go.

Solution

A mobile-first, dark-theme catalog manager with flexible views, alerts and in-flow product creation.

Impact

A scalable platform for building, analyzing and sharing interactive catalogs across devices.

UI design

Three decisions that turn a dense catalog workflow into a clear, confident mobile experience.

1Navigation

Contextual view modularity

What I designed

A persistent top toggle lets people switch between Grid, List and Detail views of the same catalog.

Why it matters

Merchants think about their catalogs differently. One structure works for visual brands and wholesale distributors alike.

2Personalization

Profile and workspace preferences

What I designed

An Account panel groups identity details (name, role, email) and workspace defaults into clean inputs and dropdowns.

Why it matters

Saved default views and sorting remove repetitive setup every time the app opens, and adapt it to each person's role.

3Data entry

A "New product" bottom sheet

What I designed

Product creation lives in a bottom sheet instead of a full page, with fields grouped into core info, pricing and inventory, and categories.

Why it matters

The catalog stays visible behind the sheet, so people keep their context and can add several SKUs quickly.

What I learned

Density requires discipline

A data-heavy app on mobile needs a strict type hierarchy. Monospace-style figures keep prices, SKUs and stock levels easy to scan.

Contrast is functional

The neon accent guides the eye to primary actions, from the floating action button to Save changes, without overwhelming the screen.

What comes next

Bulk editing

Multi-select in List view, so merchants can change prices, categories or priority for dozens of items at once.

Analytics dashboard

A light analytics tab showing top-converting items and the most frequent stock-outs over the last 30 days.
